What is a Super Sack Bag?

When exploring the different types of bulk bags out there, you’ll probably come across the term “super sack bag” a time or two. So, what exactly is this kind of container? In the most basic terms possible, it’s simply a really big bag used for filling a wide variety of bulk goods, from manufacturing materials like sand to fertilizer and other flowable products. Super sack bags get their name because they’re made by Super Sack, Inc. or BAG Corp, but the term has come to refer to any kind of heavy-duty bulk bag.

The best part about these kinds of bags is that they’re easy to integrate into your existing warehousing, logistics or shipping supply chain, and are perfect for certain packaging solutions as well. Most are made of durable, woven polypropylene fabric and have lift straps affixed to the top so that they can be easily maneuvered by a forklift. These kinds of bags are often referred to as flexible intermediate bulk containers or FIBC bags. Even though the material itself weighs only a few pounds, some of these bulk bags are made to transport an entire ton of material.

As mentioned, these kinds of bags are also great for certain shipping applications. In general, an FIBC bag can be classified as such if it’s intended for shipping solid materials in bulk or particulate form and if it doesn’t require further packaging. Therefore, in some scenarios, opting for super sack or bulk bags can save you big bucks because you don’t have to pay for additional materials. They all feature durable fabric and stitching with reinforced loops or sleeves and a variety of fill and discharge features for ease of use.

Types of Super Sacks

So, now that you know exactly what this kind of bag is used for, let’s take a look at some of the different kinds of sacks out there that can be used for different applications. The bag size, specific features and recommended applications vary based on which type you buy.

  • Spout Bags—Otherwise known as a spout bag, this kind of FIBC bag is equipped with a spout—when the spout is at the top, it’s called a “spout top bag,” and when the spout is at the bottom, it’s called a “spout bottom bag”—and lift loops to make it easy to partner with your forklift. They can usually hold a safe working load of 2,000 pounds or more.
  • Duffle Top BagsDuffle top spout bags are a common type of super sack container featuring an opening that’s the same diameter as the bulk bag, creating a wider and more accessible opening. Duffle tops come in a wide range of styles, including food-grade, anti-static, U-Panel and baffle. They typically have a 2,000- to 3,000-pound weight capacity.
  • Jumbo BagsJumbo bags are another kind of extremely strong FIBC bag that can be implemented in any supply chain for handling or transporting bulk material. These bags are the more basic kinds of heavy-duty bulk bags, but still work well with bag fillers and forklifts. Jumbo bags vary by weight capacity.
  • One-Ton BagsThe one-ton bag is a kind of bulk bag that can hold as much as a ton of bulk material at a time. This makes these bags ideal for use with your bulk bag unloader, pallet, forklift and other equipment. As the name suggests, these bags can usually hold a safe working load of 2,000 pounds or one ton.
